The purpose of R.I.S.E. Today is to incorporate and motivate the students, faculty, and staff of Rice University in the dynamic and unconventional engagement of the following missions:

- To model and mold a sustainable lifestyle for the Rice community and the future of the Earth by promoting planet forward awareness and actions. Planet forward awareness and actions is defined as actions that work to better the future of the planet and society.
- To model and mold an ethical lifestyle for the Rice community through acknowledging its importance and fostering awareness of human rights through education and fundraising.
- To champion the actions of students today to make a lasting impact on individual lifestyles, with the goal of eventually creating layers of interactive, sustainable, and ethical communities.
- To work with the surrounding community of Houston to establish support and interest networks through awareness and action campaigns, such as the Fair Trade Campaigns organization.
